SonShine Early Childhood Academy, Inc. was created to meet the urgent and unmet need of high quality, faith-based, year-round, early preschool education and care for young children living in adversity in Wellington Heights.
In 2017, SonShine bought property from the Affordable Housing Network, Inc. located at 1700 and 1708 4th Ave. SE. (brick building and adjacent home pictured above), as its location for our mission work.
Shortly thereafter, the adjacent dilapidated home was demolished to make room for our future playground. (See picture to the right). SonShine is currently working with Metro High School STEM students and Abundant Playscapes of Iowa City for the design and making of our natural playground.
Currently, we are in Phase 1 with the remodeling of 2/3 of our building. The other 1/3 is an apartment which is rented to help generate revenue.
There have been many obstacles and setbacks along the way but as we remain obedient; persevere; walk by faith and not by sight, God is proving faithful! He is providing our daily bread... and then some! (See the white vehicle in the picture on the right? It's a 15 passenger van generously donated to us by Oak Grove Church!). We LOVE how that guy works!
